As someone that’s infatuated with NYC, and now someone that spends a week a month in San Francisco, I’m always looking to find “the beat” in SF. That NYC energy and spark. I haven’t been able to find it yet. However, that changed this trip thanks to an ultra generous bartender — this is largely her’s and I take no credit for writing it. I have added links and a few additions of my own to make things easier and more interactive.

So without further ado — I give you the best recommendation guide I’ve ever received from a true service industry professional who’s lived in SF her whole life. (Last updated: Jan 9, 2020)

Not to miss bars — AKA the greatest hits

Smugglers Cove — tiki bar in Hayes Valley with excellent rum selection. Repeat appearance on the top 50 Best bars list.

Buena Vista — Where the original Irish Coffee was invented. Landmark and staple for sure. Tip — on a nice day order Irish Coffees to go and walk down to Fisherman’s Warf. On a terrible day order five and stay there.

Trick Dog — Mission bar with a creative concept menu that changes every 6 months. The bar is owned by the Bon Vivants PGA and…
